Every child deserves to smile with confidence

With your help, children in Sumatra, Indonesia can receive the surgical interventions needed to correct cleft palate disorder.

1 in 300 Indonesian children are born with cleft palate disorder every year

Children born with cleft palate disorder or craniofacial deficiency in Indonesia are often hid from society. Parents fear the repercussions of stigmas attached to the condition and will sometimes keep their children totally confined to their home for life. Other children are cast away to live in seclusion with others like them. Because many Indonesian families cannot afford an operation, the children may suffer their entire lives from an inability to properly consume food, an inability to speak properly and harrassment because of their appearance.

A mission to improve the lives of Indonesian children and give local doctors the tools to provide world-class treatment

The McGann Ratner Foundation was formed with a dual-mission: to eradicate craniofacial deficiency and cleft palate disorder in Sumatra, Indonesia, and to train local doctors to provide the surgeries that will transform hundreds of lives in their communities. Our world-class surgical team from UCLA will travel to Sumatra twice a year to provide free surgeries to children and teenagers in need of cleft palate correction. Qualified local doctors are invited to attend these surgeries along with lectures to learn how to treat this genetic disorder surgically.

With your help, lives can be transformed

With your generous donations, the McGann Ratner Foundation will provide 20 Indonesian children with the cleft palate surgeries they need in November 2016. All funds raised will go towards the pre-operative, surgery, and post-operative needs of the patients, as well as further dental treatments necessary for optimal health. Our team will travel to Sumatra again in April 2017 to continue providing surgeries for the children and educating local doctors. With your support, we will continue sending our team to Sumatra twice a year for many years to come.
